GFT 6 month internship available

A paid internship is available from October 2025 for 6 months to work with Galloway Fisheries Trust on our River Annan Restoration Project.

The intern will help to deliver a varied range of tasks and responsibilities surrounding the role of Nature Finance in habitat restoration, while providing opportunities to learn and develop their professional skills.

Key responsibilities:

Assist in developing restoration sites for the ‘River Annan Restoration’ project including site identification, liaising with landowners and key stakeholders, site walkovers, habitat surveys, planning and mapping restoration works.

Assist with planning and delivery of community events.

Explore and produce report on youth engagement, researching how the project can work to become more visible, relevant and of interest to young people.

Assist in the overall dissemination of GFT work to a wider audience particularly using social media.

The candidate should be fit, motivated and hardworking.  There will be a requirement to undertake some lone working.  A full valid driving license is required.  The position will be based at Newton Stewart in Dumfries and Galloway however a lot of the work will take place in the Annan catchment. 

This full time, fixed term intern post is a wonderful opportunity for someone with a suitable ecological or conservation qualification to develop their skills and work experience.  They will gain valuable experience in natural capital enhancement work and how to develop and deliver nature restoration projects.  The project has a training budget to cover GIS, First Aid and Habitat surveying methods including Phase 1 and MoRPh. 

Salary will be £441 a week.  Closing date for applications is noon 29th August 2025. 

Face to face interviews plan to be held on the 9th September 2025 in Newton Stewart.

The River Annan Restoration Project is delivered by GFT working closely with the Annan DSFB and is supported by NatureScot, through the Facility for Investment Ready Nature in Scotland FIRNS and the National Lottery.

Sparling Goes To School

This year's Saving the Sparling Project Intern has been continuing with the Sparling Goes to School Project by visiting local primary schools to teach pupils about the amazing Sparling.
