The Trust is governed by a Board of 12 full Trustees and a number of co-opted Trustees, elected from a wide range of interests and professions, including salmon anglers, coarse fishing anglers, Councillors, nets men, land agents and farmers.
Usually the Trust employs four full time biologists and up to three further staff members during busy field work seasons.
Jamie grew up in Galloway. Following an education at Glasgow University (BSc Hons Aquatic Biodiversity) and Edinburgh University (MSc Environmental Protection & Management), he returned to work at the GFT in 1996. In 2002 he took over as the Senior Fisheries Biologist. His particular work interests are habitat enhancement techniques and rare fish research and management. Outside work Jamie enjoys most country sports, cycling, attending concerts and walking his dog. Jamie is married and has one daughter.
Jackie is originally from Aberdeenshire. Having gaining a BSc Hons in Aquatic Bioscience from Glasgow University in 1999, Jackie joined the Annan District Salmon Fishery Board as a river habitat surveyor. After joining the Trust in 2001 she has completed much work on North American Signal Crayfish and has become particularly interested in renewable energy developments and their effects on fish populations. In 2004 she gained the Chartered Environmentalist qualification. In her spare time Jackie continues to renovate her house and garden, enjoys horse riding and going to music concerts.
Liz is from London. She has a BSc hons in Marine Biology from Newcastle University, an MSc in Ecology, Evolution and Conservation from Imperial College London and a PhD from Glasgow University. Her PhD thesis was concerned with the ecology and conservation of a rare Scottish fish called powan. Liz joined the GFT in October 2009 on a three year contract. Her main responsibility is project officer for the ‘River Cree Rare Fish Project’ which works on a range of fish species including all three species of lamprey, shad, sparling and salmon. In her spare time Liz enjoys walking and cycling with her dog, exploring the countryside, and watching interesting films.
Rowan is a local girl from a farming background. She has a BSc Hons degree in Zoology from Glasgow University. After graduating in 2005, she spent a year working with the Forestry Commission before joining the Trust in December 2006. Her current responsibilities include running and maintaining the regional fishing website FishGalloway and the Vaki fish counter at Tongland on the Kirkcudbrightshire Dee. Office work aside, Rowan much prefers being outdoors and is a keen runner having competed for Scotland in the 1500m track and cross country. Rowan also enjoys mountain biking and hopes to resume flute playing when she has more time!
Angela grew up in Galloway and started office life with the local joiners/undertakers before moving on to the Forestry Commission. She has been involved with the Trust since 1991 and took up a permanent post in 1996. She has the unenviable job of ensuring the Trust office and finances run smoothly and efficiently. Increasingly she plays a pivotal role in the claiming of grants, in particular complex European funding. Angela is married and mum to two boys and one girl, enjoys outdoor activities with her family and looking after their horse and pony!
